Cathy, a self -taught artist, has always had a passion to re-create the experiences of her life through her art. Using the energy of bold colors and rich textures or the subtle and soft hues of nature, her deepest emotions and appreciation of life’s journey is reflected in each piece. Memory and canvas combine so that the viewer may pause and experience the tradition, truth, and beauty of the captured moment.
Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media, her art is versatile and expresses a variety of styles and interests. Louisiana, her home State, and the Gulf Coast Region provide a paradise of subject matter, ranging from food and nature, to religious and cultural themes.
Though she never met her grandfather, he too, was a self-taught artist, an immigrant from Holland who worked as a commercial artist when he came to America.
She believes he passed that “gift” along and that gift is used today as she creates “what is in the heart”.

Cathy C. McLaurin,
Artist
Cathy has won numerous awards and competitions and is humbled by the appreciation of her work. She is a firm believer in giving much more than one receives and follows through with this philosophy by donating her work to local charities and fundraising causes. Her work is donated annually to Louisiana Public Broadcasting, Boys and Girls Hope, the Arthritis Foundation, and private fundraising events for cancer patients.

In addition to painting and photography, Cathy coordinates exhibits for local businesses and restaurants, as part of giving back and helping other artists share their work with the public.
